Below is a note from Our School Green Committee leaders with several volunteer opportunities.
Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all doing well and enjoying 2013 :)
We have some events coming up that I wanted to make sure you were aware of. The Terracycle Drive is this month. We are asking families to look at home and the office for items and send them to the school. A mass email should be going out this week about it so look for the details there or on the blog site (http://kcsmagreencommittee.blogspot.com/). If you have any great ideas on how to promote or encourage the kids, please let me know. I am not sure if we will add a competitive component to the drive, but hopefully we will be able to set a goal for the school that will encourage the kids.
There is also a plan to put in place a Memorial Garden for Coach Ingram that will be dedicated at the end of the month. We are going to need help planting and also have some items that we would love to see donated which can include plant material you may have at home such as daylily bulbs that need separating. We already planted a few daffodils and cannas but will be looking for more daffodils and yellow based perennials. Some of the planting will occur before the dedication and some items will just have to wait until they are available for purchase. I would like to try to have several flats of yellow pansies to give us some show for the dedication. We would also love a yellow YEAH BABY bird feeder if anyone wants to build one and donate it with a pole for mounting. Of course we will also need lots of pinestraw. If you want to be part of this effort in any way, please let me know and we can figure out how you can help.
Lastly, we have a SWAP event planned for February 2. It will be from 10-12. I need volunteers to help coordinate this function. We will be doing a free for all exchange and will be collecting items on Friday from 1.30 - 5.30. I will need volunteers to work on Friday for sorting and Saturday to keep things running smoothly. We will be collecting kids clothes, shoes and books. We are also discussing the idea of a uniform consignment with this function so we may need even more folks if we get approval for that.
